Auto Insurance In The Us

by admin on February 26, 2011

Auto insurance premiums are the amount of insurance payable against a vehicle to an identified insurance company or agent in order to screen the car and the occupants against any accident involved in. Car insurance entails two main coverage namely; bodily injury and property damage. The driver of an auto mobile may be covered against bodily injuries or death that may arise from an accident gripping the insured vehicle; this is referred to as the bodily injury liability coverage. The coverage may also include the damage of the vehicle and in other instances any valuable property that may be contained in the car as at the time of accident. This is referred to as property damage liability cover.

There are a number of factors that insurance firms in the US consider when determining the premium payable by the insurance policy holders. These comprise person’s gender, car categorization, marital status, age and location of the car as at the time of purchase of the insurance policy cover. Usually insurance premiums are either derived and consented by the state or determined by the insurance companies in accordance to regulations state by set insurance laws.

In the US, insurance premiums vary from one region to another. In determining the insurance premiums, insurance firms, derive the rates based on the calculations of anactuary from statistical data obtained from respective government departments such as accident rates and the premium charges by other firms. The data may include trends of accidents such as the young people are involved in accidents more frequently than old persons.

Auto insurance premium rates differ depending on factors that are said to have perceived repercussions on the cost of compensations. The value of an auto mobile is used to determine the underlying premium defined for its policy registration. Value, in this context refers to its cost of pick and cost of maintaining the vehicle such as repairs and fuel efficiency. For instance, sports cars assume relatively obscene premium rates than luxury cars.

Age is broken-down to derive insurance premium rates in the sense that older people usually attract lower premiums that young people. Older persons are regarded as responsible and experienced in their driving behaviour and thus their probability to cause an accident is much lower than the young persons. The youngsters are considered vibrant and with less experience in driving.

Moreover, young people average more driving miles in a particular time frame compared to the older persons hence the possibility to be involved in an accident is much higher. This is because the young frequent roads more often and this coupled with the perceived inexperience and less responsibility further justify the decision. In the US, premium rates tend to decrease from the age of 25.

Being a male or female in the US is worn to determine the rate imposed on the insurance for your vehicle. Statistical data depict that men average more miles that their counterparts hence the same factor of being on the road more often makes them susceptible to being involved in an accident. From this context, insurance compel higher premiums on men than women.

Marital Status is a determinant factor in auto insurance premium rate calculations. Unmarried drivers often find themselves presumed to pay more premiums that their counterparts who are married. Whatever reason may be attached to this decision made by insurance firms, it is clear that married persons do a sense of responsibility and will thus instil the same in their driving behaviour. More often than not, married drivers will be interested in accidents less frequently than unmarried persons. This may not be the case always; however, it is used to settle the premium. Clients have no otherwise but to conform to the requirement.

The person’s driving records also choose the rate of premiums imposed. Usually, drivers who have been involved in accidents more frequently usually attract high premiums. This information is obtained from vehicle traffic police department. It is advisable that drivers should employ the best code of driving ethics through out their driving in order to be on the safe side to have low premium charges imposed.

How do car insurance companies calculate settlements? Well I have an eye opener for you! Being an ex-car insurance representative I have the low down on what the car insurance company doesn’t want you to know.

The first step they teach an insurance representative is to approach every region with a skeptical eye. We make sure that all the specific policies were followed:

  1. Stay on the scene of the accident.
  2. Contact the police and have them have out an accident report.
  3. Take pictures of the accident.
  4. Contact your insurance company immediately.

The insurance company has several checks and balances in place to insure (no pun intended) they are a profitable business. When the initial report comes in the insurance company will converse the claimer on the next steps to purchase. Depending on the type of coverage the claimer has for their vehicle depends on the next steps. If the claimer has liability insurance only. Well they are out of luck for their car. Liability only covers any damage the claimer does to other persons or property. Comprehensive coverage is a different story. In that case we will ask the claimer to get three estimates. If the damage succeeds the value of the claimer’s car then they’re only getting paid for the value of the claimer’s car.

If the claimer is an individual making a claim to another insurance company then this is a totally different story. If the claimer broke any traffic violations then do not count on getting paid. For example if the claimer was parked outside the yellow lines and someone backs into their car. The claimer will have to make a claim to the person who hit their car insurance company. They will tell the claimer to get estimates. When the police report comes in and says the claimer was parked outside the yellow lines the claimer will not get paid.

There are many leaps and bounds that a claimer trying to settle with an insurance company must over come. The insurance companies try to be as customer friendly as possible while still being a business and making money. It is always the best to check with your insurance company’s policy. Then if an unfortunate situation such as an accident arises you will be prepared. Being prepared for the worst, having a calculated understanding, and knowing your insurance company’s policy saves the claimer a lot of headache in the long run.
